Portrait Now!
Brewer J.C. Jacobsen’s Portrait Award

In 2012 The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle will launch the Nordic competition Brewer J.C. Jacobsen’s Portrait Award for the fourth time. Brewer J.C. Jacobsen's Portrait Award is aimed at artists in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. The competition is a parallel to the major portrait competitions in the UK, USA and Australia.

We will now open the competition for Russian artists.

The purpose of Portrait Now! is to stimulate interest in portraiture, among artists as well as with the public. The artists will be invited to challenge and to give new bids on the genre. Unlike the Anglo-Saxon portrait competitions, Portrait Now! is not limited to painting and/or sculpture.

The Portrait Award is given to three Nordic / Russian artist that are chosen by the international jury, irrespective of whether the portrait takes the form of a painting, a video, an installation or a work of sonic art.

The prizes are as follows: first price is 85.000 DKR, second price is 35.000 DKR and third price is 15.000 DKR. Additionally there will be a special prize based on the visitors’ referendum.

Facts:

An international jury will decide which of the participating portraits will be given prizes. The jury will also make a selection of portraits that will be displayed in the exhibition at Frederiksborg in 2013 and published in the exhibition catalogue. The competition is arranged at the initiative of The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle. The competition/exhibition of 2012-13 will be the fourth time in eight years that the competition and exhibition is being held.
